English
The study of
English, the universal language, has become almost obligatory at university
level everywhere in the world. English is an indispensable requirement
for most of the majors and it is used in the study of almost all the
academic fields. Besides its academic use, English has ended up being
the language used mostly in international business and tourism and he/she
has become the second favorite language of the world. The origin of
English comes from a mixture of German and Celtic languages.
The Norman conquest
of the British island of the XI Century brought the romance languages
through traditional French from the same period. Through the centuries,
English has evolved to its current form. English spread in the world
by means of the British colonization in several parts of the world like:
United States, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Jamaica,
among others. With the global importance of England and the United States,
English's use has spread beyond all political boundaries. Nowadays,
English is heard in movies and popular music and one can read in several
types of literature. It is for that reason that in our universities
the study of this language has been included.
